How to Properly Organize your Handbags...

People seem to constantly ask me how they should organize their bags, shoes, makeup, jewelry, lingerie and knits. So here we go!

Today we are working on Handbags!

First, you want to divide up your bags into 2 piles. What you are keeping, and what you are tossing (donating/selling). This includes going through your overnight bags to your smallest of clutches. Get rid of anything you don't want, don't use, etc.

Once that is done, taking your "tossing" pile and make some extra cash! Use apps like Poshmark or create a page on Etsy.com. You can sell your products online (as long as they are in good condition). Another free idea: create an album on your Facebook page "for sale: gently used items and more", also post on your twitter! Take photos of each item separately and put prices in the captions with a little description. If you don't have the time, or just don't want to sell - donate! Goodwill, Salvation Army, local charities, they all will take used items. Don't just trash when the money can go to a good cause!

OK, so now back to organizing!
Rule One: Don't place smaller bags in larger ones because you'll tend to forget you put them there and then you'll end up purchasing duplicate items because you didn't realize you had it in the first place. Or you may give away 2 items when you thought I were giving away one (so always check inside before tossing).
If you are using a shelf or hook, always put the tallest bags in the back and get smaller as you come forward. That way you can see all your bags from the front (and place bag back where it belongs when done, don't just throw it anywhere, that's when you start to not realize what you have).

You may want to section out type of bags, if you have the space.
You can section by color, type of bag or type of event you may use it for.

For larger bags, you don't want to loose their shape once displayed, stuff with tissue paper or old clothing to keep that bag standing tall!

Reminder- DO NOT store away wet leather. If you get stuck in the rain with your leather bag or clutch, stuff it and keep it out in an open room to air dry before putting away.  If you don't it can ruin the color of the leather and/or the shape of the bag.

Stay tuned for the next blog about organizing shoes...
